Wilson’s Senate bid wins Albuquerque Journal endorsement

By | October 29th, 2012

U.S. Senate candidate Heather Wilson, a Republican from Albuquerque, has won the endorsement of the Albuquerque Journal. The Journal is the largest newspaper in New Mexico and is typically ranked among the nation’s top 100 newspapers by circulation. Here’s an excerpt of the Journal’s endorsement on Sunday:

“Wilson’s national security and military experience give her the edge at a time when New Mexico’s national laboratories and military bases — and the thousands of jobs that go with them — need a strong, committed defender in the Senate.”

Wilson’s opponent, U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich, D.-N.M., won the Journal endorsement in his Democratic primary with State Auditor Hector Balderas, but continues to fall short of winning the paper’s general election endorsement. In both his 2008 and 2010 congressional bids, the Journal endorsed his Republican opponents.

In the video above, Wilson addressed supporters at an Oct. 24 Albuquerque get-out-the-vote rally with Gov. Susana Martinez and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, R.-Fla., following an earlier appearance by the trio in Mesilla, N.M.
